A progressive and pragmatic Minister desired to do something urgent to arrest the decline in the educational sector. Alder was consulted to assist in crafting and executing a sustainable programme for rejuvenating the educational sector, in conjunction with other key resource persons. The programme cut across the three tiers of the sector: primary, secondary and tertiary. The Nigerian Federal Ministry of Education has been vested with the overall responsibility for laying down national policies and guidelines for uniform standards of education in Nigeria. By the role entrusted to it, the Federal Ministry of Education is responsible for the formulation and implementation of national policies on education. Over the years, the educational sector had been plagued by daunting challenges which included:
Initial strategy sessions were held with the Minister, key officials of the Ministry and other partners. At the session, mission, vision statements and reform initiatives were developed. Strategy & policy documents were also drafted based on in-depth examination of the issues plaguing the sector. Taking a panoramic view of the Nigerian educational sector, key issues and challenges were streamlined and proposals made on the way forward. Presentations were subsequently done to key stakeholders and departments of the Ministry to generate buy-in.
